Five airports, five different sets of quirks. Here is what the dispatch desk passes to every chauffeur on a first shift.
U.S.-bound flights at T1 clear U.S. customs in Toronto, not at landing. Be at YYZ 4 hours before take-off, not 3 — Toronto-side CBP can eat an hour by itself at 7 a.m. peak.
Tunnel is faster (5 min walk including elevators). Ferry is more comfortable with a stroller or wheelchair. Both leave from Eireann Quay. Pick by passenger profile, not by speed.
Hamilton bag-clear averages 18 minutes vs Pearson’s 38. For families + elderly travellers, that 20-min delta matters more than the extra drive time from Mississauga.
Peace Bridge (Fort Erie) is shorter for Buffalo airport runs but busier on long weekends. Queenston-Lewiston (Niagara Falls) is longer but emptier. The chauffeur reads live border-wait posts before crossing.
Ambassador Bridge handles commercial traffic and can back up. The Detroit-Windsor Tunnel is car-only and usually 15 min faster. We default to the tunnel for DTW runs unless commercial traffic is light.
Gardiner east via the 427 south is faster than the QEW for airport-to-airport. 35 minutes most hours, 50 in rush. The route is hard-coded into our dispatch software.
